Leadership Award

In 2013, the IWGSC leadership established the IWGSC Leadership Award. This award is given to recognize significant achievements, including major scientific milestones, that would not have been accomplished were it not for the demonstration of outstanding leadership and commitment to the overall objective by an individual or a group.

John Jacobs and Bayer CropScience (BSC) were awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of their leadership for advancing significantly the IWGSC efforts to complete the reference sequence of the bread wheat genome. John received his award in January 2016 at the Plant and Animal Genome Conference (PAG) in San Diego, United States.
Ming-Cheng Luo was awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of his leadership in completing the reference sequence for the Ae. tauschii – the progenitor of the wheat D genome. He received his award in January 2016 at the Plant and Animal Genome Conference (PAG) in San Diego, United States.
Klaus Mayer was awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of his leadership in the IWGSC Chromosome Survey Sequencing Initiative. Dr. Mayer lead the bioinformatics and sequence analytical part in the survey sequencing initiative which culminated in a special issue in Science in July 2014. He received his award at the PAG Conference in January 2015.
Jane Rogers was awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of her leadership in the IWGSC Chromosome Survey Sequencing Initiative. Dr. Rogers was asked in 2010 to lead IWGSC survey sequencing initiative which culminated in a special issue in Science in July 2014. She received her award at the PAG Conference in January 2015.
