Vijay Tiwari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture at the University of Maryland (USA). Research of his group is focused on genetics and genomics of on wheat, rye and barley. They are focused on identification, transfer, and isolation of important genes and alleles playing vital roles against abiotic and biotic stresses in wheat and barley. Another important aspect of his research is focused on molecular understanding of yield and yield contributing factors in bread wheat. They have identified some key genes playing important role in spike morphology and grain number per spikelet and are currently conducting mechanistic studies on these key candidate genes to better understand these traits.

“It is with great pleasure that I am presenting Vijay with this Leadership Award for his work on RH mapping for structural genomics used in RefSeq v1.0”, said Kellye Eversole at the award ceremony. “Vijay is a former recipient of an IWGSC Early Career Award and we are delighted to see how an accomplished scientist and leader he has become.”
