Hélène Bergès

In January 2019, Hélène Bergès was awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of her leadership in BAC pooling and BAC libraries.

Hélène Bergès is Managing Director of the Plant Genomic Resources Center (CNRGV) – a national infrastructure centre, which is part of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) network. The Centre conducts research projects, provides tools, resources, and expertise for plant genome analyses. Wheat resources figure prominently in the Center’s library, with more than 7 million samples. Among them are all chromosomes-specific BAC libraries, as well as Minimum Tiling Path chromosome specific BAC libraries and all pools used to construct MTPs created within the IWGSC projects, representing more than 5 million samples.

"Hélène has been involved in the IWGSC from its inception and has repeatedly demonstrated her leadership in making the BAC libraries accessible and in rapidly pooling the BACs for the completion of all of the physical maps. It has been a great pleasure to work with her and her team at CNRGV who seem to not know the word impossible," said Kellye Eversole, the IWGSC Executive Director.
