Curtis Pozniak

In January 2019, Curtis Pozniak was awarded an IWGSC Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of his leadership in the completion of the IWGSC RefSeq v1.0.

There is no question that the leadership of Curtis Pozniak was essential to the completion of the high quality, reference sequence of bread wheat, IWGSC RefSeq v1.0. Without the determination and persistence of Curtis, we would never have the IWGSC Whole Genome Assembly which provided the “glue” to bring together all of the IWGSC resources to complete the reference. – Kellye Eversole

Curtis Pozniak is a Professor and Wheat Breeder at the University of Saskatchewan’s Crop Development Centre. His research focuses on breeding, production and management of durum and high yielding wheat.

Pozniak lead Canada’s contribution to the IWGSC RefSeq project through the Canadian Triticum Applied Genomics (CTAG2) project. He is currently involved in the 10+ Wheat Genome Project, an international initiative to sequence more than 10 cultivated wheat varieties from the main growing areas across the globe.
