Genome-wide analysis of a wheat transcription factor family: the power of bioinformatics resources

Webinar: Genome-wide analysis of a wheat transcription factor family: the power of bioinformatics resources

On 27 May 2020, the IWGSC organized a Webinar "Genome-wide analysis of a wheat transcription factor family: the power of bioinformatics resources" presented by Rainer Melzer and Susanne Schilling (University College Dublin, Ireland)

Outline

The publication of the high-quality annotation of the IWGSC genome and associated expression data in enabled us to do a detailed analysis of MADS-domain proteins, one of the key families of plant transcription factors. These have been shown in other plant species to be involved in virtually all aspects of plant development.
We identified and characterized in total 201 wheat MIKC-type MADS-box genes. We will provide an overview of phylogeny, evolution and expression of these genes and speculate that conserved, duplicated and neofunctionalized MIKC-type genes may have played an important role in the adaptation of wheat to a diversity of conditions, hence contributing to the importance of wheat as a global staple food.
In our webinar we will also illuminate our strategies for conducting these analyses with the abundance of available resources created by the wheat and bioinformatics community.
